An Interiors love letter to India Mahdavi

India Mahdavi is an Architect and Interior Designer who has been quoted as saying…

“Sunshine is happiness, and my work is about happiness”

When discussing Interior Design (or life), happiness seems to be a very good place to start. You may want a space to feel cool, or calm or even sexy, but really if it makes you happy; I believe its achieved it goal.

India’s use of colour in design is unexpected, fun and part of her magical happy making. India is also an inspiring innovator, leading the biggest trends interiors, for example she definitely put the colour pink on the map.

Until India designed the restaurant at Sketch, who knew pink could be edgy, fun and sophisticated all at the same time.

All her spaces have a nostalgic feel, without an ounce of kitsch or pastiche. They make unusual colour palettes and odd juxtapositions, feel familiar and new and exciting all at the same time.

I could go on and on (however you probably have coffee to make, jobs to get to) my final ode to India’s work is her combination of curved lines, sumptuous velvets and playful shapes, became a celebration of modern femininity.

This all adds up, creating a world that I would like to hang out in her for a very long time.
